Frequently asked questions ?

I am not very flexible is Ashtanga yoga for me ?

Yes. The Ashtanga practise raises internal heat in the body so you become more receptive to change. As experienced teachers we are skilled at safely modifying the movements and postures so all individual's needs can be catered for.

I've heard Ashtanga yoga is for fit young people, am I too old to start the practise ?

No. Ashtanga yoga is for everyone....except the lazy !

What should I wear ?

Comfortable, stretchy clothing such as leggings/tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt. It is important we can see your feet, so trousers that cover the ankles are not recommended. An extra layer such as a long sleeved top that can easily be taken on and off is also a good idea for the Beginners course.

Do I need to bring anything ?

No. On the Beginners course we provide mats. You will need to buy your own mat when you attend our regular classes.

I do a lot of sports. Is Ashtanga yoga for me ?

Many 'active' people find Ashtanga yoga suits them well because of it's dynamic nature. The practise could improve your strength, flexibility and muscle/joint stability.

I am overweight is Ashtanga yoga for me ?

Yes. The dynamic nature of and the heat and sweating in the Ashtanga practise can aid weight loss. We would work closely with you so that all the postures are accessible and safe.

I am on medication. Does that matter ?

No. People on medication practise Ashtanga yoga. At the start of the Beginners course you will be asked to complete a confidential medical questionnaire. If you have any particular concerns please telephone and discuss it with us beforehand.

I am pregnant. Can I start practising Ashtanga yoga ?

Please telephone us and we will be happy to discuss your individual need.

Is Ashtanga yoga a religion or a cult ?

No, it is a science of body and mind that encompasses aspects of lifestyle, physical movement and postures, breathing techniques, concentration/meditation and relaxation that has been developed over thousands of years.
