Practising with us
We teach Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in the traditional way as it was transmitted to us by our teachers
- Sri K Pattabhi Jois and R Sharat of the Ashtanga Yoga Reasearch Institute, Mysore, India, and
- Lino Miele of the Astanga Yoga Research Institute, Rome, Italy.
As the Ashtanga system is a formal sequenece of postures it has to be modified to every persons needs and ability, so as teachers, we constantly observe, correct and adjust each student ensuring that you are safe and able to practise to your fullest potential. Hence, any changes to your well-being such as injury, unexpected ill-health, improving health, strength and flexibility can be immediately incorporated into your practise. We are fully qualified to teach both the Primary and Intermediate series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.
For those new to yoga or new to Ashtanga yoga we offer day-time and evening beginners courses which run throughout the year. In these special courses the sequence of the postures in the practise is gradually introduced together with the correct breath and movement. To enable you to then progress on into our regular weekday classes we provide you with practise sheets and give additional tuition during that Beginner course/Mysore self-practise style transition period.
To re-enforce the Vinyasa system of Ashtanga yoga, that is the correct movement and breath sequencing, we run counted 'led' classes once a month. These classes are counted in sanskrit, the origianl language of yoga and are an invaluable additional teaching aid to our daily Mysore self-practise classes.
For those students wishing to broaden and deepen their knowledge of yoga further, we run
- in the Spring of each year a series of whole-day weekend workshops, and
- in the Summer of each year 6 weeks of summer courses where you are able to experience the traditional 6 day a week practise early in the morning.
